Evaluating mHealth interventions in an under-served context using service design strategy: a case of Kenya

Abstract

mHealth interventions have been widely adopted across various health systems in an attempt to improve healthcare delivery, particularly in underserved contexts such as Kenya. This has made mHealth more established than telemedicine. However, despite mHealth having been adopted as one of the five pillars of the national e-health strategy, the effectiveness of these interventions is questionable due to the lack of a clear sustenance and scale-up strategy as well as consensus among stakeholders on design requirements for successful implementation. Apparently, there is a paucity of empirical evidence to understand the complex nature of technology use in mHealth services from a design thinking perspective.
