    Abstract
The relevance of energy in global development is well articulated in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Among the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, Goal 7 is fully dedicated to energy. The Sustainable Energy for All initiative, together with the World Bank and the International Energy Agency (IEA), are also redesigning the framework of access to better highlight the link between energy, services and local development. In this context, the Preparing for Long-Term EU-AU Partnership in Renewable Energy (PRE-LEAP-RE) project aims to build an AU-EU renewable energy research and innovation community. The main objective is to prepare a European Joint Programme (EJP) based on experience from similar successful projects carried out in the past.
