Terrorism has greatly affected Kenya for over a decade, with recent attacks occurring as a result of the deployment of the Kenyan military to neighboring country Somalia. Terrorism is a matter that affects national security and the well-being of society. The government has been prompted to take drastic measures to counter terror attacks. The measures employed by the government to counter terrorism have had a profound impact on human rights. There has been a violation of human rights more specifically, freedom from torture. Freedom from torture is an absolute right and derogation from this right is not justified under any circumstance. This research provides a case study that highlights the various ethnic and religious groups that have been targeted during counter-terrorism operations and whose freedom from torture has been violated. The study seek to provide ways in which security agents responsible for the violations are held accountable and ways in which further violation could be prevented.en_US
