An accurate measurement of the various risk components while calculating reserves for longterm liabilities cannot be underrated. In 2014, LFSA stated that there is a need for a sufficiently robust capital regime, which is a good shock absorber to address sudden business adversity given the increase in volatility in the global insurance industry. According to Mutuli (2014), insurance regulators across Africa have had an increased interest to introduce RBC, necessitated by the financial crisis of 2008, which saw many countries reassess their risk management techniques.
