Abstract
Financial sustainability has been found to be one of the issues that affect the work done by non—governmental organizations in most of the third world countries and more so in Kenya. Endowments have been such avenues as one of solutions towards ensuring sustainable development through financial sustainability. This paper examined the factors that affect the growth and performance of endowments in Kenya, bearing in mind the importance of the organizations that housed them. The origins and the structures of the endowment finds and their organizations were discussed. Factors affecting the endowment such as the sources of income, management and governance models; the investment and asset allocation policies and their imnplenientations were examined, The critical success criteria and factors in line with, each organization such as provision for perpetuity; and the ability for organ izations’ own sustenance were examined, conclusions regarding these factors and the endowments it’s future prospects were then drawn in line with time practices put in place. Recommendations on the best practices froim: each of the organizations were also imiade.
