Abstract
Record keeping in healthcare facilities has for many years been done manually and this made the whole process repetitive and inefficient. Over the years and with advancements in technology, more and more hospitals have switched to electronic record keeping methods. Without a system that allows this and hence record sharing for all healthcare providers, the burden usually falls on patients and their loved ones to find ways to access the information they need. Being sick and having to visit a hospital is already something many people don’t look forward to. It becomes even more of a task if they have to go back to their previous hospitals to get a printout of their previous records or if they have to go through the same processes again. Electronic medical records (EMR) allow accurate, real-time access to patient health care data and have great potential to improve the quality of patient care through decision support to clinicians. The proposed system aims to create a system that allows healthcare providers from different hospitals to securely store, access and share patient medical records. By doing so, receiving care in another facility becomes more effective and efficient.
