Abstract
When it comes to employment, classification of the workers is usually considered important because it is the class under which a worker falls that will determine the labour rights the worker is entitled to. This dissertation seeks to study the importance of classification and what gaps exists in regulatory framework governing employment in the gig economy sector. It also looks at the various suggestions that have been given by various scholars on how employment in the gig economy can be regulated. Therefore, the dissertation will start by highlighting the importance of classification of workers. Secondly, it will examine the Kenyan employment laws so as to determine what gaps exist in the regulatory framework. Thereafter, it will do a case study of the United Kingdom so as to understand how they have dealt with the issue of classification of online gig economy workers.
