- ItemA Survey of the State of Dataspaces(International Journal of Computer and Information Technology, ) Ateya, Ismail Lukandu; Shibwabo, Bernard Kasamani; Wanyembi, Gregory WabukeThis paper presents a survey of the state of dataspaces . With dataspaces becoming the modern technique of systems integration, the ach ievement of complete dataspace development is a critical issue. This has led to the design and implementation of dataspace systems using various approaches. Dataspaces are data integration approaches that target for data coexistence in the spatial domain. Unlike traditional data integration techniques, they do not require up front semantic integration of data. In this paper, we outline and compare the properties and implementations of dataspaces including the approaches of optimizing dataspace development. We finally present actual dataspace development recommendations to provide a global overview of this significant research topic .
- ItemThe application of real - time voice recognition to control critical mobile device operations(International Journal of Research Studies in Science, Engineering and Technology, 2015-07) Omyonga, Kevin; Shibwabo, Bernard KasamaniThe consistent increase in the number and ownership population of mobile device s introduces a variety of limitations. A set of this limitations revolve around interactivity. The overly dependent haptic mechanism of interaction has caused device falls, slower time to interaction, health concerns , and limited support for the disabled among other problems. There is need to formulate innovative techniques that facilitate our interaction with these devices fo r users. In order to achieve this, a Real - time Voice Recognition A lgorithm is formulated that lets users of mobile devices acquire freedom to move about and reduce the need for constantly glanc ing at their screen . This is achieved by allowing users to verb ally command their devices to carry out ordinary tasks such as setting an alarm, making a call, or even starting any application. An added unique feature is that i t also offers offline acc ess as any commands given by a user are processed and executed local ly on the device.
- ItemImproving the decision-making process using an information management system(International Journal of Current Research, ) Shibwabo, Bernard Kasamani; Ateya, Ismail Lukandu; Musau, Gloria MeliThe ability to make effective decisions is crucial to an organization’s survival in today’s tumultuous business environment. In order for firms to evaluate alternatives and make informed choices they must have reliable and timely data upon which to make their decisions. Consequently, the development of effective information management techniques is critical. In this research a web-based information management system is developed for better decisionmaking. Two agents are integrated in the system, namely; mapping agent and extraction agent. The mapping agent reduces the workload for users charged with the responsibility of data entry. The extraction agent is designed to aid in the retrieval of current, timely and relevant data, eliminating unnecessary information. The critical information requirements are identified and a prototype is developed for verification. The prototype is developed using PHP language for the system interfaces with GD for providing a graphical reporting supported by a MySQL database. The system is implemented and tested at a Kenyan based Internet Service Provider. As a result, the organization under study increases its sales through improved targeted marketing and monitoring of the outcome. The user load is also reduced by half and the risk of data input errors minimized by 80%.
- ItemIntelli-restore as an instantaneous approach for reduced data recovery timeShibwabo, Bernard Kasamani; Ateya, Ismail Lukandu; Mugoh, LeonDue to the competitive and regulatory pressures and the high demands and dependence placed on data, there is need for higher data availability and a faster means of recovering the data in case it becomes corrupted or lost. Based on results provided on the reasons behind the long / high data recovery times by Kenyan SMEs this paper provides a solution that reduces the data recovery time. In order to solve the problem of high data recovery times, an instantaneous data recovery strategy based on an existing Continuous Data Protection (CDP) architecture is introduced as an important component of a well-rounded backup and recovery strategy. CDP is a disk based backup solution which ensures that data is retrieved at a much faster rate during recovery.
- PublicationModelling dataspace entity association using set theoremsShibwabo, Bernard Kasamani; Ateya, Ismail Lukandu; Wanyembi , GregoryThe development of dataspace support systems is far from reality as individuals and enterprises are faced with the huge challenge of data management. Critical to this is the need to provide a model that represents the relationships between the entities collaborating in a dataspace. A dataspace is a new abstraction and target architecture to data management that does not require up-front semantic data integration. This paper models a dataspace using the set theory with entity mappings. A technique for identity resolution and pay-as-you-go data integration is explained. In order to provide a strong degree of assurance, the authors subject the model to certain real world entities that might form part of a global dataspace.
- ItemRepository integration: the disconnect and way forward through repository virtualization supporting business intelligence(International Journal of Current Research, ) Shibwabo, Bernard Kasamani; Ateya, Ismail LukanduThis paper proposes a presentation-oriented virtualized approach that supports a modern process to merge existing data islands in organizations around the world that results to a merged virtual data repository. The authors explore a variety of data sources and finally present a uniform solution for the common cases. The solution consists of a transparent virtual repository that supports informational intelligence components. By using this approach we not only mask the differences in divergent data repositories but also provide a standard way to access enterprise-wide data. Security is provided through a twotier mechanism. The result is a single database that percolates and draws data residing in incoherent repositories alongside an intelligence layer. In real-time, there is a determination of the available data repositories. In conclusion, we expect users to exploit this platform and be free to filter information based on their requirements so as to come up with an informed judgment.
- ItemThe 3D gaming simulation for a real-world university experience(International Journal of Computer and Information Technology, ) Shibwabo, Bernard Kasamani; Sowon, Karen; Echaminya, MbaraniThis paper presents a gaming system which simulates the life of an ordinary University student. The University selected is Strathmore University. The simulation gives the player an idea of life experience in the University as it would be in the real world. In addition to simulating how various aspects affect student life, the simulation also acts as a good way of exploring the university without actually having to be there. Therefore one can learn a lot about the university at the comfort of their seats without suffering too much time expense whilst at the same time enjoying the experience of gameplay. To achieve the set goal Object Oriented Analysis and Design Methodology with Python scripting programming were used as to facilitate interactivity of the player. Blender 2.5 Beta software was used to model the virtual environment. This simulation would be great to both explorers, researchers, lecturers, parents, students and aspiring students alike among others. Many love the experience of gameplay whilst at the same time gaining other learning benefits, depending on the learning intentions of the individual player, for instance, knowing their way around the university.
- ItemUni - Search - A web crawler for career matching and university of choice detection(International Journal of Research Studies in Science, Engineering and Technology, 2015-07) Kayima, John Paul; Kivisi, Samuel Ngoda; Shibwabo, Bernard KasamaniMany of the youth around the world are not certain of what career to pursue for one reason or another. Unfortunately at the moment, several youth tend to pursue the “cool” courses without regard to their capabilities, passions and interests. Uni-Search is an intelligent application meant to create awareness about choosing the ideal route to a career or profession. Given ones’ capabilities or strengths, the application establishes your personality then matches the possible career options proper to ones' capabilities. This is achieved by crawling the web with efficient matching algorithms. With the results, a user is then at freedom to select among the options given which one best defines what you want to do for a career. A user can then select among the courses and read about what each one of them entails before narrowing down to one. Uni-Search also provides information on which Universities offer the chosen course and their location. This helps to a large extent counter the issue of youth unawareness about what career path to undertake and what course to pursue.
