Abstract
This paper highlights some of the benefits, which a family book club can bring to a practicing family. The study focuses on families in Nairobi, a dynamic and busy city where, due to demanding corporate environments and busy schedules, quality family time remains elusive. The paper randomly selected families living in Nairobi with the nuclear families and have volunteered to take part in this study over a period of six months. The families were randomly selected and focussed discussion held to find out if there are any benefits, which the families under study have experienced for the past six months of practise. The result of the focussed discussion was analysed qualitatively. Preliminary findings show that home book clubs have a positive effect in uniting the family and creating a solid ground for development of children. Reading together as a family is beneficial not only to the family, but also to the children. It gives the children a firm foundation Regarding understanding of the world around them and has a unitive benefit to the family.
