| dc.description.abstract | Whistleblowing is one of the various key detection mechanisms used to uncover corruption in both public and private sectors. Whistle-blowers are those who give up information to the relevant authorities. However, they are often in danger of various threats to their life and safety by powerful individuals whom they intend to report. It is against this backdrop that this study highlights the importance of their protection through the enactment of laws in the fight against corruption. A disappointing finding is made of the inadequacy of laws in existence in Kenya for the protection of whistle-blowers given the clear correlation between lower levels of corruption and the existence of such laws. And whilst the study finds that legislation is important, it also admits that implementation will be a challenge if the rule of law is not respected. Further, the substance of proposed laws should also be given due consideration and it is to this end that the paper highlights some key aspects (both substantive and procedural) that ought to be included in the drafting of such laws in Kenya. | en_US |
