dc.description.abstract | The ability of banking institutions to motivate generation Y (Millennials) employees will play a strategic role in improving company performance and competitiveness in the industry. The main purpose of the study was to determine the role of organizational characteristics on the motivation of generation Y employees. The organisation characteristics which the study examined were working conditions, Reward strategy, career development and job characteristics. The study was informed by the specific objectives which were; to find out whether organisation characteristics (working conditions, reward strategies and job characteristics) influence motivation of Generation Y (Millennials) workforce in the Banking Industry of Kenya. The study used descriptive research design to achieve these objectives. The study sample was comprised of 50 respondents drawn from various banks within Nairobi . Data collection was done by use of a questionnaire. The quantitative data was obtained and analysed using STATA to provide the study findings. Computations of frequencies, averages and regression analysis, were used to analyze the data guided by the research questions in reference to study objectives. In regard to the study findings, it was found out that out of the many items that were used to measure the motivation, some items were more influential than others. Working conditions were observed to have the highest influence followed by career development and reward strategies and job characteristics were least influential on the motivation of Gen Y employees. | en_US |
