Abstract
African countries have had the challenge of lacking country-specific published mortality tables. Up to date there exists only two countries in the continent that have managed to achieve this milestone and these are Kenya and South Africa. Rwanda is faced with the same problem of lacking published mortality tables reflecting their own unique mortality but are however seeking to develop their own tables. This study takes a keen look on how Rwanda-specific mortality tables can be developed by use of the Brass-Iogit model. Additionally, pricing for life insurance is carried out using the developed mortality rates so as to come up with suitable premium rates that are applicable to the Rwandan population.
